Story of Maki’s Pottery
Maki san is the second generation of a well-established potter family in Shiga, Japan.
The family has been in the pottery industry for decades and specialising in “Shigaraki-yaki” style potteries which this place is known for.
Maki san is applying glaze to her rice bowls.
The motto of her potteries is “potteries for comfortable life” which means that she wants to create something that blends into your every-day life.
Something that is simple yet beautiful.
Maki san is making mugs.
She uses hard soil that is fired at a higher temperature in the wood-fired kiln which creates very unique characters that the Shigaraki-yaki style is known for.
Shigaraki Ware has distinctive characteristics, in a heritage that has been passed along for generations. She creates this pottery with love and care. Her bowls look great on dining tables and make wonderful gifts for the special people in your life.
